Players management

Players can be managed during three distinct phases of a tournament preparation:
  • registration
  • list validation
  • check-in

Registration

During this phase, players can be added with only a valid name. The player's group (if any) can be selected, and an option lets you choose if the player will get a first round bye (won during a previous tournament).

List validation

When editing players in this mode, you can validate a player's faction and squadron points. This mode allows you to validate lists before the beginning of the tournament.

Check-in

Activate this mode at the beginning of a tournament. As players arrive, check their name. If their list hasn't been validated, you will need to do so now. Once all players have checked-in, the first round can be seeded.

  1. So, there's a case that seem awkwardly handled by the app:

How do you drop a player several rounds into a tournament without breaking everything?

    1. Once a round has been seeded, you need to switch to the edit mode, then delete the player. Some players will be paired again.

      How does things get broken?

    2. When the dropped player gets deleted, all of their associated information relating to their matches - their scores and strength of schedule - is also deleted.

This causes the app to recalculate the strength of schedule of everyone who played against the dropped player, by counting the dropped player's SOS as 0. This messes up the standings.

If you're going to use the "delete player" functionality as a drop, it needs to be graceful. Otherwise, a drop player button that handles it correctly would be better.

    3. Ok, so to drop a player, you would simply need to uncheck his name in the "Check-in" screen. He will not be paired again with other players, but he will appear in the results.

Deleting a player will effectively delete all associated data, and hence change the strength of schedule of other players.

    4. That works, but it is not intutitive.
      Thanks.

  2. Hi,

First I want to congratulate you for your app "Tournament Organizer X-Wing". It is really useful and easy to use. It's much better than the one I was starting to develop to organize tournaments :-)

I have one only request for a change. The timer only lets to select three periods of time: 60, 75 and 90. If you read the official tournament rules, it's allowed to select any period of time between 60 and 90 minutes: not only 60 or 90 minutes is allowed.

Thank you for developing this app.

  4. Hi Axel, Thanks for creating the ap! I ran into a problem yesterday I'm wondering if you can help me with. For some reason the person with the bye in round 1 was given a draw (1 point) and not a win (5 points). I was not able to figure out why this happened or how to fix it. Any thoughts? is there any way you can add a manual override function to help fix this sort of thing? Thanks! Tony

    1. p.s., this only happened in the first round. Folks who got byes in later rounds were automatically given full wins.

  5. Love the app, really glad you made it. The share to Facebook button just seems to lock up when I try to do it. I think everyone in our group would like it if I could post event results at the end.
